My Latest Love Affair

On the weekend I managed to organise myself a 'Readers Pass' for the British Library. The Reading Rooms at the British Library are only accessible to those who are conducting some type of research (either academic or personal); and fortunately, given my new status as a student of Psychology, I meet the criteria.

So off I went on Saturday, went through the application process and then proceeded to venture in to the Humanities Reading Room.

I can honestly say that it was love at first sight. The huge vaulted ceilings, gorgeous oak desks and big comfy leather chairs surrounded by the most amazing leather bound books was almost too much for me.

Then to top it all off, the man sitting opposite me looked such the part. Dressed in a 3 piece suit, with a polka dot bow tie and a carnation in his lapel, small round spectacles and a big pointy grey beard... he was the quintessential British academic.

Yes, Ziggy was in seventh heaven. I have a feeling I am going to be spending a lorra lorra time in the British Library.

Ahhh...I'd love that place too. The peaceful tranquility....ALL THE BOOKS! Seventh heaven is a good way to put it :)
You lucky devil!

My local library is brand new so, although beautiful, it lacks the rich historic qualities of an English lie-beary.

I wanna come! I wanna come! That sounds like absolute heaven to me. I *hate* the way the SF library is laid out; they purposely construct it to make it uncomforatble for you to hang out (I guess a lot of homeless people set up camp) and the reading rooms are A. have glass door to create a noce fishbowl effect and B. have a two hour limit. Argh. I yearn for my library in NY. No, scratch that. I yearn for this library and reading around men in three-piece suits rather than urine soaked rags.

how come you never talk about school?? how's it going? have classes already started??

Running - I will promise to post that pic when/if it happens!

TM - awwww don't blow my cover, man! :-)

Angel, I wish I could take credit for the pic, sadly I cannot.

Scribe... the library has always been a haven for me - this one is just the best I've seen though!

Dabich - you're welcome to join me there any time!

Dan - geeks are particularly welcome in the library. (and you know how I feel about geeks anyway).

Anhoni - only just started my psych degree - so I'm sure I will start talking about school soon and bore everyone to death!

Sar... 0h that SHOE!!!

Now that looks like a 'proper' library ... wonder if they hire the polka dot bow tie guy to add atmosphere;)
