Bloody Aussies

Right, I'll just preface this post by saying that I'm very proud to be able to call myself Australian.

However.... when they choose to do advertising campaigns like this (or the apparently hugely successful 'throw another shrimp on the barbie' campaign of the 80s) I just feel mildly embarrassed.

I mean, really.

Could be worse. No worries mate. (I picked that up off an Australian tv show I watch. The Block, I love that show.)

Running - The Block is *bloody* hilarious.

Scribe - what is cool is that my parents were living literally a couple of streets back from (I believe) that very beach in that photo! I think it's Cable Beach in Broome and it really is the most beautiful beach.

um, how did my comment get before yours, Scribe?!?! I mean, I know you're on the other side of the world... but that is muchos confusing.

I think it's cool.

Ziggy, that mix up of comments happened to me too...on Scribe's site!

I don't get it.

I've seen the retort appear before the comment. It's pretty cool.

Hmm, I'm not sure I get it either. Though I do find most Aussies and their Aussie-isms very endearing. Along with nice beaches. Speaking of, Ziggy...my place, Friday!

Yanno come to think of it, I'm really getting tired of those bloody "Outback" commercials.

Yeah, dude, i don't get the ad, nor the offense. What's with the Camels? Why the national animal of Egypt?

Anyway, the English have football supporters to undo any national pride that might be felt. At least you've Prisoner Cell Block H (I'm now about the gayest thing with a beating heart right?!).

guys, I don't think there is much to get. "Bloody" is known to be a word which is *very* over-used in Oz, that's all.

I just think it's a bit embarrassing to use camels (yep, FL... not exactly Australian) and a word which is not specific to Australia but clearly a colloquialism for a major advertising campagin...

OH! and Future Legend... I have "Prisoner Cell Block H" or simply "Prisoner" as it was known in Australia on DVD... who's the gaylord now?!

I believe the correct terminolgy is Lord of the Gays rather than gaylord.
