I went to see the latest Harry Potter film today. I am unreserved in saying how very much I loved it.
But I noticed something that I hadn't really thought about before... Harry Potter's scar (on his forehead) is very similar to the lightning bolt on David Bowie's face during his Aladdin Sane incarnation.
The very lightning bolt I want to get as a tattoo on my wrist! So I had a moment of panic - if/when I get this tattoo - are most people going to think I am just a fervent Harry Potter fan?
I had a similar problem after I got my first tattoo. It was designed by a friend of mine who is a graphic designer, and is based on Jean-Michel Basquiat's art - the crown in the middle being "Samo's" tag (he was a graffiti artist before going in to commercial art).
Problem being, people often ask if it refers to other things. My favourite so far has been:
Is that based on the Burger King crown?

I think the lightning bolt is great. And why on earth would anyone mistake it for the Burger King crown. It's a little more unique than the crown of a burger joint.
you can't be serious. Someone did NOT ask you if your tat design was the freakin' burger king logo. christ.
hmmmm...well the lighting bolts thingies are certainly similar....but Bowie's is at a different angle than harry's.
I feel that if you got the lightning bolt across the whole face no one would confuse you for Harry. You'd have to get a ridiculous catsuit too, though, just in case.
If I were to look, where would I find the Burger King tattoo?!
Angel/Ahoni... oh there have been many other mistakes made... someone asked if it was a stamp from the club I'd been to the night before, and someone else asked me if it meant I had a superiority complex (who, me?!?)
Dan, thank you for your comforting words. I'll bear that in mind.
Nick... it's on the inside of my forearm... if you were to look...!!
Harry Potter, eh?
Well, I'm afraid I'll have to deduct 15 cool points from you, sir.
oh don't even get me started on cool points, scribe.... LOL
I think you need to post a pic of your tat Ziggy.
TAT!
TAT!
TAT!
Harry potter is an automatic deduction, zigs, there's nothing I can do about that.
Scribe: he's not getting the tattoo b/c of Harry. He's getting it b/c of Bowie.
OK, fine!!! 8 cool points shall be returned to him!
Scribe, why only 8? Surely Bowie is worth more than 8!?!?!
I mean... in my opinion, there is nothing cooler than Bowie in his Aladdin Sane period.... even with the crazy catsuits.
And Harry Potter IS cool, Scribe. You just don't know it yet.
Anhoni, pictures of aforementioned tattoo coming soon...
Finally someone else who likes Harry Potter!! I thouroughly enjoyd those movies!!
Hey Ziggy, Reading thru some of your prior posts, I noticed you wanted a dog, but "not in London". Why is that? Do you have no room where you live? I love dogs, and I have two bassett hounds. They are such loving, loyal creatures. Much more forgiving than humans. Just curious.
zigs,
Bowie is worth way more than 8 points, but Potter is an automatic deduction I'm afraid.
dabich, I did actually own a dog in London with my ex partner, and lost him (the dog) in the divorce... but in fact, I think unless you have enough money to have a property with a garden, it isn't easy owning a dog in this city regardless. Although I miss having a dog soooooo much.
ps. Harry Potter rocks.
Scribe, I bet you haven't even read those books like everyone else who has decided to have a negative opinion about them!
I attempted to read them. I found them pedestrian and superficial. Remember, I move in the circles that write these things Rowlings is seen as the fantast equivalent of Michael Crichton, a lucky bitch with modest talent who tapped into the general malaise of the human condition.
Scribe... so have you tried 'His Dark Materials' by Pullman?
I agree that HP is pretty standard stuff... but as far as some bog standard, mind numbing reading... I think they do the trick!
OK, as long as you have that perspective, I can respect your occasional slide into crapdom. LOL
I haven't read His Dark Materials but have heard nothing but glowing praise for it. Have you read Minions of the Moon?
scribe: stop being a hater.
If you think I'm a hater after just that, take a look at my blog. LOL
